Between the stud windows

Adding windows in an existing structure in the Municipality of Anchorage typically requires plans provided by a structural engineer and a building permit. This can make the addition of a window very cost prohibitive.

An alternative to having the engineering and permitting done is to install windows in the existing bays between the exterior framing studs. The width of the window is usually limited to about 14″ or so, but it’s a great way to get light into a room and not have the major expense or hassle that comes with re-framing a wall for a large window opening.
